Is All Well with Veteran Actor Prem Chopra?

The CSR Journal Magazine

The veteran actor Prem Chopra, 92, has been hospitalised at Lilavati Hospital. It has been confirmed by his son-in-law, actor Vikas Bhalla, who shared that Chopra is hospitalised and it is a precautionary measure and he is doing fine and would be discharged in some days. Bhalla said, “It is all age-related, and a regular procedure. There is nothing to worry about.”

Prem Chopra treated for lung infection?

In a conversation with media, Dr Jalil Parkar treating Chopra shared that he is a known case of cardiac ailment and he also had a viral infection, and that he is being treated for his lungs. Parkar confirmed that Chopra was not in ICU; but in the ward. “He is 92 years old and he has age-related issues because of which his recovery takes a little time. He should be fine in another three-four days and go home,” the doctor added.

Chopra’s other son-in-law Sharman Joshi has also confirmed that he is recovering, he said, “All good thank you, just some tests, back tomorrow,”.

Chopra’s iconic villain roles

With over six decades of an acting career, Chopra has done over 380 films. He has the status of one of the most iconic and charismatic villains, a career path that started after his initial positive characters like Sukhdev in Shaheed (1965). His career breakthrough was when he started portraying most of the characters in villainy, after his performance in movies like Upkar (1967) and Rajesh Khanna’s Do Raaste (1969) and Kati Patang (1970).

He was at his peak from 1967 to 1995 as an antagonist. His famous dialogue that is still alive is, “Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra,” from the movie Bobby (1973). This line was an instant hit and remained in the minds of the audience for decades.

Other iconic movies where his antagonistic characters became immortal were Do Anjaane (1976), Kranti (1981), and Dostana (1980). Prem Chopra was paired opposite Rajesh Khanna in over fifteen successful films. He even performed character roles very well for decades — a truly versatile actor. His character in Koi… Mil Gaya (2003), the unconventional comedy in Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009), and more recently, his role in Animal are notable examples.
