Iran’s Military Warns of Severe Consequences for US or Israeli Attacks on its Energy Infrastructure

The CSR Journal Magazine

As the ongoing conflict in West Asia enters its two-week mark, Iran’s Military Headquarters, known as Khatam al-Anbiya, has issued a stern warning regarding the potential repercussions if Iran’s energy infrastructure comes under attack from the US or Israel.

A spokesperson stated that even a minor assault on Iran’s energy assets or ports would trigger a “crushing and devastating response.” The spokesperson further added that such an offensive could lead to the destruction of all oil and gas facilities in the region that are of interest to the United States and its Western allies.

Supreme Leader Highlights Strategic Options

In recent statements, Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has pointed to the option of closing the Strait of Hormuz as a significant leverage point. During a broadcast on Iranian state television, Khamenei urged military personnel to recognize the public’s desire for ongoing and impactful defense measures.

He emphasized the strategic importance of retaining the capability to block the Strait in response to pressures. Khamenei claimed that studies had identified vulnerable sites susceptible to strikes and that these options would be activated should the conflict continue.

UN Ambassador Clarifies Iran’s Stance on Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, clarified the nation’s position regarding the Strait of Hormuz amidst the escalating situation. He asserted that Iran does not intend to close this crucial maritime passage but stressed the nation’s right to ensure peace and security within the waterway. Iravani reiterated Iran’s commitment to upholding the principles of freedom of navigation as established under the law of the sea. He added that the current conditions in the Strait of Hormuz are not a direct result of Iran’s lawful exercise of self-defense.

Restrictive Measures on Maritime Passage Intensified

In light of recent developments, Iran has increased restrictions on maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, particularly in response to ongoing military actions by the United States and Israel. The Iranian authorities have indicated that vessels not aligned with the interests of the United States and Israel are allowed to navigate the waters freely. This move underscores Iran’s strategy to assert control over the Strait while balancing its diplomatic commitments.
