Iran Israel War: Over 70 Indian Students Evacuated from Iran via Armenia Amid Conflict

The CSR Journal Magazine

Over 70 Indian students, primarily from Jammu and Kashmir, have been successfully evacuated from Iran due to the ongoing conflict in the region. The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association announced that these students are slated to arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Sunday morning after a coordinated evacuation process that involves a connecting route through Armenia and Dubai.

Details of the Evacuation Flight

The students are traveling on Flydubai Flight FZ8124, which departed from Zvartnots International Airport in Yerevan. The flight is carrying the students alongside other pilgrims.

According to Nasir Khuehami, the national convenor of the Association, the initial leg of the journey took off at 1:25 PM Armenia time on March 14 and is expected to land in Dubai by 5:00 PM local time. Following this, the passengers will board another Flydubai flight, Flydubai Flight FZ441, scheduled to leave Dubai at 5:05 AM local time and expected to reach New Delhi around 9:55 AM IST.

Background of the Students’ Situation

These students had been in Iran due to academic commitments but found themselves stranded amid escalating security concerns. The majority are studying at Urmia University of Medical Sciences, Tehran University of Medical Sciences, and other institutions. Prior to their evacuation, the students were moved to safer locations by the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

Coordination with Indian Authorities

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association stated that its efforts are synchronized with the Ministry of External Affairs, along with the Indian embassies in Tehran and New Delhi, to facilitate land-transit permits and secure airline seats for the students. The evacuation route through Armenia was organized following urgent requests made by the students who were concerned about their safety.

Safety Precautions for Remaining Students

Khuehami pointed out that the situation was formally communicated to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri last week, leading to the necessary permissions being issued for land transit and travel. Furthermore, the Ministry of External Affairs has urged Indian students still in Iran to refrain from posting their precise locations or personal information on social media as a safety measure amidst the volatile conditions.

Relocation of Students from Kerman

In addition to the students being evacuated, another group who were studying in Kerman has also been relocated to the city of Qom for enhanced safety. This precautionary measure aims to ensure the well-being of the remaining Indian students in the region during this challenging period.
