Iran Advocates Dialogue and Diplomacy Amid West Asia Tensions

The Iranian Consul General in Mumbai, Saeid Reza Mosayeb Motlagh, emphasized Iran’s longstanding commitment to dialogue and diplomatic efforts to resolve conflicts in West Asia. During an interaction in Mumbai, he attributed recent escalations in the region to attacks from the United States and Israel, which he referred to as acts by the “Zionist regime.” Motlagh remarked that the situation intensified following attacks on Iran, asserting that the country’s responses were purely defensive.

Motlagh stated, “If peace were to prevail in the region, the United States and the Zionist regime should not have attacked us.” He indicated that the responsibility for increasing tensions lay with these aggressors, rather than the Islamic Republic of Iran. The envoy underscored that Tehran has consistently advocated for diplomatic engagement to resolve regional disputes, asserting that adversaries have shown a lack of commitment to such dialogues.

Moreover, he criticized the attacks on Iran, labeling them as “without any legitimate legal justification or valid objective,” thereby placing the nation amid a “broad crisis and significant pressures.” Motlagh called for accountability from those responsible for these actions, reiterating the necessity for adherence to conditions set by Iranian national authorities.

When questioned about Iran’s responsibility in averting a global economic crisis triggered by the ongoing conflict, the consul general firmly rejected the notion. “Under no circumstances. Those who attacked us are responsible, and we have acted solely in self-defence,” he stated, highlighting that the aggressors should have anticipated the repercussions of war. He expressed discontent over their actions despite warnings of potential wartime consequences.

In his dialogue, Motlagh urged international cooperation to compel aggressors to adhere to the Charter of the United Nations and international law. He maintained that the international community should actively engage in discussions with the originating party of the conflict and push for the cessation of aggressive actions. “This issue is not limited to Iran. Throughout history, it has been witnessed repeatedly… they have historically devastated nations of their choice using harsh measures,” he noted.

The consul general asserted that today’s context differs, as Iran stands resolute against these actions. He delivered a clarion call to all nations, stressing the importance of holding aggressors accountable and ensuring that such unilateral measures are not enacted against any nation in the future. Motlagh highlighted that it is imperative for all states to take a stand and work towards fostering a peaceful resolution in line with international law.
