Hyderabad’s Indane Gas Station Faces Crowds and Delays as Consumers Struggle with Cylinder Shortage

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tumultuous scene unfolded at the Indane Gas Station in Bagh Lingampally, Hyderabad, on March 13, as numerous consumers flocked to the facility seeking gas cylinders. Customers voiced concerns that the online booking services by Indane were malfunctioning, contributing to a heavy influx of people at the gas station.

Frustration Over Delayed Deliveries

Individuals like Ahmed, a resident of Musheerabad, shared their struggles with procuring gas cylinders. He stated that he had not received his cylinder for ten days after placing the order. Ahmed described his repeated visits over the past three days to the gas station where he was repeatedly asked for a DSC number, which he found hard to obtain. He mentioned, “I’ve been calling every day, but nothing is happening. I have small children at home. Our gas finished last night, and even our small backup cylinder is empty, forcing me to buy food from outside today.”

Concerns About Stock and Booking Issues

Similarly, Sai Dattu from Barkatpura expressed his exasperation regarding the unavailability of gas. He mentioned that it had been 12 days since he booked his cylinder, but it had not yet been delivered. After inquiring with the delivery staff, he was informed that there was no available stock. When he visited the gas station, he learned that power was out, causing additional delays. Dattu also highlighted a more extensive shortage of domestic gas and added, “The booking system itself isn’t working. When I call the booking number, they say it’s not working. That’s what is happening.”

Challenges with Online Booking

An additional resident from Warasiguda, also named Sai, detailed his troubles with the online booking process. He reported attempts over several days to secure a cylinder through mobile booking without success. Currently running low on gas, he indicated that he only had enough supply for a couple of more days, raising concerns for his household. He remarked, “They aren’t even letting us inside. They are only attending to one or two people at a time. They insist that they will only provide a cylinder after the online booking is confirmed.” He concluded that if the situation persisted, he may have to resort to unconventional cooking methods.

Government’s Response to LPG Situation

The ongoing tensions in West Asia have triggered a noticeable shortage of commercial LPG gas cylinders, prompting the Central Government to invoke the Essential Commodities Act in order to prioritize domestic consumption. Earlier in the day, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas reassured citizens of the country’s adequate availability of petrol and diesel, while acknowledging the ongoing concerns regarding the LPG supply situation.
