SEEDS (Sustainable Environment and Ecological Development Society), in association with Honeywell India, concluded the Safety First-Honeywell Safe Schools roadshow at Rishikesh Bairaj, Haridwar. The Safety First roadshow has travelled the Dehradun-Haridwar corridor to sensitise and raise awareness among the communities. Over the past month, it has reached out to over 750 people across the two districts in Uttarakhand, spreading awareness about the comprehensive safety of children.

The Honeywell Safe Schools program aims to act as a catalyst to bring about a culture of disaster resilience in Uttarakhand. Among the most populous districts, Dehradun and Haridwar already face risks from natural hazards like earthquakes, floods, and epidemics. The vulnerability has been compounded by rapid industrialization and unplanned expansion.

The roadshows across the Dehradun-Haridwar corridor were therefore organized considering the disaster vulnerability of both districts. The Safety First – Honeywell Safe Schools roadshow started from Dehradun, moved through towards Rishikesh and concluded in Haridwar covering key areas like Har ki Pauri, Prithviraj Chauhan Chowk, Ranipur Chowk, ISBT Road, Mussorie Road and Rajpur Road. It aimed to highlight risks critical to the safety of children, while they are in school, between home and school, in the community and even when they are at home.

Interactive activities like community group discussions and quizzes, as well as visual aids including standees, posters, and a short film, were used to communicate the message of safety.

The program believes that a school is more than a building; it is a place for children to learn, play, to be inspired, and to be safe. This makes ‘safety’ – at an individual as well as community level – a matter of concern for all.
