Gujarat Expands Emergency Response Network With 500 New 112-Janrakshak Vehicles

The CSR Journal Magazine

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Monday inaugurated 500 additional “112-Janrakshak” emergency response vehicles, taking the total fleet to 1,000 across the state. The vehicles were flagged off at the Nava Sachivalay in Gandhinagar and will operate round the clock to provide emergency assistance to citizens.

According to the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office, the state has introduced a 150-seat emergency call centre, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system and caller-location technology under the 112 service. These measures have brought the average police response time down to 10 minutes and 49 seconds, with authorities aiming to reduce it further to below eight minutes.

The 112 panic-button facility has also been integrated with ride-hailing platforms including Ola, Uber, Rapido and Bharat Taxi.

Over 11 Lakh Emergency Calls Handled

Officials said the Janrakshak Project has responded to more than 11.04 lakh emergency calls in nearly 11 months. Immediate assistance was provided in over 6.74 lakh police-related incidents during the period.

Minister of State Kamlesh Patel said the initiative reflects Gujarat’s focus on improving public safety and ensuring faster emergency assistance.

Gujarat Steps Up Cybersecurity Efforts

Sanghavi also highlighted the state’s efforts to tackle the growing threat of cybercrime. On August 19, the KANAD S.H.I.E.L.D. Cybersecurity Hackathon 2026 was organised at KCG Campus (i-Hub Gujarat) in Ahmedabad.

The Deputy Chief Minister said coordinated efforts would be crucial in addressing emerging cyber threats. He also announced a ₹51 lakh challenge to integrate Gujarat’s CCTV network and develop an AI-powered automated system to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention.
