Google launches AI Mode in Hindi for Complex, Localised Search Queries

The CSR Journal Magazine

Google has broadened the reach of its AI-powered search feature, AI Mode, by adding support for five new languages, including Hindi. The other languages include Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Brazilian Portuguese. This marks a significant development in making advanced artificial intelligence more accessible to a wider audience. Since its initial launch in English earlier this year, AI Mode has empowered users to ask longer, more complex, and nuanced questions in a conversational manner, enhancing the overall search experience.

Google Brings AI Search Closer to Hindi Speakers

AI Mode, powered by a customised version of Google’s Gemini 2.5 large language model, offers a smarter way to interact with the search engine. Unlike traditional search, which often requires users to perform several searches to piece together information, AI Mode can understand multi-faceted queries and deliver detailed, personalised answers in one go.

Hindi speakers can now engage with Google Search using text, voice, or image uploads, making the interaction more natural, intuitive, and accessible. For example, a user can upload a photo of their balcony and ask a complex question in Hindi about which fragrant night-blooming plants to grow for enjoying the city view during the rainy season. This advanced AI truly understands the subtle details embedded in such queries and responds with relevant suggestions.

The introduction of Hindi support goes beyond mere translation. As Hema Budaraju, Vice President of Product Management at Google Search, explained, making search truly global requires a deep understanding of local knowledge, context, and cultural nuances. Google’s Gemini 2.5 AI model incorporates advanced multimodal and reasoning capabilities that help grasp the meaning behind complex questions. This sophistication ensures that the AI can provide locally relevant and useful responses, tailored not only to language but also to cultural preferences and regional specifics. The AI Mode’s ability to accept multimodal inputs such as text, speech, and images further enriches the search experience, accommodating different ways users prefer to communicate their queries.

What the Hindi Expansion Means for Users and Search in India

The rollout of AI Mode in Hindi is a major step in Google’s vision of inclusive technology, aimed at breaking language barriers and offering a more personalised search experience to diverse linguistic groups. Since launching the English version in India, Google has received positive feedback for AI Mode’s capacity to handle complex questions involving trip planning, local recommendations, and other intricate tasks. With Hindi now live, millions of users can harness the AI’s power more comfortably in their native language, simplifying their search journeys and delivering answers that are not just accurate but resonate with cultural context.

Google’s AI Mode can be accessed via a dedicated tab or button on the search results page, with the company planning to make it the default search interface soon. This development is expected to deepen user engagement and reshape search habits in India and beyond.
