Soon after the Maharashtra Government declared Ganeshotsav as the “State Festival of Maharashtra”, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a step to make seeking permission for organising committees easier and make the festival eco-friendly.
Now, public Ganesh Mandals of Mumbai will not have to run around at different departments of the BMC to set up pandals. Instead, a “One Window System” has been started on the BMC Portal through which Ganesh Mandals can get pandal permission online.
Permission for pandal, Police NOC, Traffic NOC everything can be done online
Ganesh Mandals can now submit application for Ganpati pandal online by visiting the BMC website https://www.mcgm.gov.in/irj/portal/anonymous. This facility has started on this portal from July 2025.
Mandals no longer need to go to the local police station and traffic police for No Objection Certificate (NOC). The entire process will be done at the level of Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of BMC. This will not only save time but the entire process will be done with more transparency and efficiency.
How to apply online for Ganpati pandal permission?
Visit the official website and go to the ‘For Citizens’ section. Click on the ‘Apply for Mandap (Public Ganeshotsav/Navratri/Other Festivals)’ link. Now apply online by filling the required documents and information. BMC has made it user friendly and simple so that Ganesh Mandals can get approval for their mandap without any hassle.
BMC’s request – Do not dig pits, do not spoil the roads
The municipal body has also requested the mandals to ensure pothole free construction while constructing the pandals. If any pothole is found on the road, BMC will impose a fine on the organising body and also levy road restoration charges. Therefore, an appeal has been made to use modern techniques for the construction of the pandals.
Steps towards eco-friendly Ganeshotsav
The BMC has taken several measures to promote eco-friendly Ganesh festival this year. Around 907 tonnes of shadu soil (natural clay) has been distributed free of cost to sculptors. A total of 979 sculptors have also been given free space to make idols. BMC has also contacted the local administration for Shadu clay and other facilities for sculptors from the Konkan region. Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on August 27 this year. BMC wants this year’s festival to be completely eco-friendly and citizen friendly.
BMC’s message – Use natural materials for decoration
BMC has appealed to Mumbaikars and Ganesh Mandals to use natural materials like cloth, paper, bamboo etc. for Ganesh idol and pandal decoration. It has also been advised to avoid the use of Plaster of Paris (POP) or chemical colors as it has a bad effect on the environment.
