Fire at Bandhwari Landfill Getting Immposible to Douse

The Bandhwari landfill in Gurgaon has reportedly been catching fire again and again, despite efforts by the fire department. On Saturday night, a massive fire broke out at the site, which prompted the fire department to rush at least 10 tenders to the spot. Later, five other tenders from Faridabad, Palwal and Manesar were added to scale up the operation.

After 48 hours of the fire in the Bandhwari landfill, the Fire Department said on Monday that it has been brought under control. However, the blaze was not completely put out because of the difficulty faced by firefighters in navigating the narrow roads in the area.

The landfill had caught fire again, and is the fourth such incident reported from Bandhwari this month. The first three similar incidents were reported on April 3, April 6 and April 21.

What Firefighters Say

“The fire is still not out, but it is under control. The fire tenders are still there. I was there through the night yesterday (Sunday). We had to bring in fire tenders from Faridabad, Palwal and Manesar, apart from stations in the city. The city body staff is also extending help, and coordination with them has been smooth so far,” the fire safety official said to the national media. He also said that a forest fire in the Aravalli is probably the cause of the blaze in the landfill. Atleast one fire tender will continue to be stationed at the site for three more days for the prevention of any small fires.
