Individual Social Responsibility is about continuing to make efforts in order to make a difference in the lives of people. Earlier this month, a dowry-less social wedding ceremony was organised at Palakkad in Kerala. The ceremony witnessed 20 couples tying the knot as part of social wedding. The girls are selected from 2,500 BPL families of the adopted Vadakkenchery, Kizhakkenchery and Kannambra panchayats in Palakkad district.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. JC Sharma, VC & MD, SOBHA Limited said, “We believe that it is our social responsibility to add value to the lives of people and society at large. In this endeavour, we started dowry-less social wedding in 2003 to lend a helping to girls from economically weaker section of the society. Over the years, it has set a unique example in eradicating the malpractice of dowry. We will continue to extend support towards conducting more mass marriages in the future.”

Social weddings are a practical response to serious social problem faced by numerous women whose families are too poor to get them married. The Trust assumes the responsibility of wedding expenditure as well as offers pre-marriage counselling to the girls and their parents. More importantly, their married lives are monitored at regular intervals to provide necessary support and guidance if needed. They have successfully solemnized a total of 570 marriages under the social wedding programme.

Organised at Sri Kurumba Kalyana Mandapam, Moolamcode in Palakkad, the ceremony witnessed a grand gathering of Chairman Emeritus and his family members, former ministers K E Ismail and V C Kabir , former MLAs K A Chandran and CT Krishnan,  the Trust Directors, relatives of brides and grooms, adding to the importance of the occasion.
