Delhi Government Approves Major Drainage Project By December 2027

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government has sanctioned a project worth Rs 263.45 crore aimed at constructing a nearly 4.5-km-long drainage line alongside the railway track in Kirari. This initiative intends to address the area’s persistent waterlogging issues effectively. The decision was made during a meeting of the Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC), led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday.

The project is expected to be completed by December 2027, as stated by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. This new infrastructure is anticipated to provide a sustainable solution for the drainage problems that have plagued the region for years.

Target Areas and Beneficiaries

This drainage network is projected to benefit residents from four Assembly constituencies, specifically Kirari, Mundka, Bawana, and Nangloi Jat. In addition to these areas, approximately 70 unauthorised colonies within Kirari are also expected to see enhanced drainage facilities upon the project’s completion.

The proposed drainage system will extend from near the Mundka Halt railway station to the Supplementary Drain. It is designed to manage a capacity of 760 cusecs, which will significantly aid in the rapid removal of rainwater that typically floods the railway corridor.
