By far two people have died and more than 1000 have been evacuated in South Korea as the country faces torrential rain, which intensified on Thursday, said the safety minister. At 11 AM on Thursday, some parts of the South Chungcheong region to the south of the capital city Seoul have seen more than 400 mm of rain since Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Interior and Safety.

More wet weather is forecasted for the rest of Thursday till nighttime. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, landslide alerts have also been raised in several regions as heavy rain continues.

In the city of Gyeongju, approximately 267 km south of Seoul, 87 roads and 38 buildings were submerged within two hours of a torrential rain warning. Some 403 schools were closed while 166 reported property damage occurred during the heavy rain, according to the Ministry of Education.

Because of the heavy rain in South Korea, residents are forced to leave their home. Prolonged downpours have raised threat levels of landslides.
