CSR News: NHPC allocated Rs 28.67 crore for CSR in J&K in FY25

National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has allocated a total of Rs 28.67 crore for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Monday.
“Rs 28.67 crore was allocated by the NHPC for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in J&K for the financial year 2024-25, out of a total Rs 167.93 crore earmarked for pan-India CSR initiatives,” the chief minister said while replying to a question by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member Waheed Ur Rehman Para in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.

The chief minister further mentioned in the House that NHPC’s CSR activities cover key sectors such as health and sanitation, education and skill development, rural development, sports and disaster management. The chief minister added that CSR funds should be utilized in consultation with local communities, ensuring the maximum benefits reach people.

The 2880 MW NHPC Dibang Multipurpose Project in Roing, Arunachal Pradesh, has made a significant contribution to enhancing medical facilities in the Dibang Valley District through its CSR scheme. On February 4, 2025, the project donated an ultrasound machine to the Anini Government District Hospital. This donation is intended to support hospital doctors, particularly in their care for pregnant women in the district.
NHPC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) at its Corporate Office, Faridabad on November 28th, 2024. This collaboration aims to promote innovative clean energy solutions, focusing on agrivoltaics, green hydrogen, and sustainable financing strategies. These initiatives are part of NHPC’s robust R&D efforts to address climate challenges while advancing India’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
“Under the partnership, NHPC and GGGI will work together to explore cutting-edge technologies, integrate renewable energy solutions with agricultural practices, and drive investments in green projects. The initiative also aligns with India’s broader climate goals and commitment to renewable energy under the Paris Agreement,” as per an announcement.
