CSR News: DEVI Sansthan Partners with Jharkhand Government to Accelerate Foundational Learning in Aspirational Districts

According to reports, there are 112 aspirational districts in India with more being added regularly which are striving to succeed across key areas like education, health, and infrastructure, however there are 16 districts in Jharkhand out of 24 which are aspirational but they are nowhere near the top. To transform this situation, DEVI Sansthan has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Jharkhand to roll out its 1st phase of the innovative ALfA (Accelerated Learning for All) program in eight government-supported schools across districts in the Ranchi division, which is a key aspirational district. This landmark collaboration aims to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills among children in government schools and communities, representing a significant step toward fulfilling the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The accelerated learning program fast-tracks learning by enabling children to learn with and from each other in cooperative group settings. The program’s unique child-centric, peer-learning model has shown remarkable success in multiple Indian states and internationally, where children have learned to read and do basic math in just 45 days. DEVI Sansthan in the last 3 years have empowered around 626447 students from across the country with the fast learning pedagogy along with students 69012 teachers were connected to the program and the methodlogy was implemented in 7636 in India.

Dr. Sunita Gandhi, Founder of DEVI Sansthan, shared, “There are 112 aspirational districts across the country, and with 16 aspirational districts, Jharkhand has the largest number of developmental areas. So this partnership is a critical step in our mission to make foundational learning a reality for every child. We are pleased to work with the Government of Jharkhand to bring the program to the children of Ranchi division. It’s strength lies in its simplicity, scalability, and scientific foundation. Children don’t need to be taught everything—they can discover, construct, and learn rapidly when placed in the right learning environment. We believe Jharkhand will become a model for accelerated foundational learning for the rest of India.”

The implementation phase will include intensive teacher training, which will create a teacher force which will be ready to start the teaching process in Ranchi Division. DEVI Sansthan brings to this initiative a wealth of experience from successfully implementing ALfA in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and several other states. With growing international interest in the ALfA model, the Jharkhand initiative also positions the state as a leader in educational reform and innovation.

As part of the collaboration, baseline and endline impact assessments will be conducted in 6 months to measure the program’s effectiveness, with a strong focus on data, outcomes, and transparency. The program will also engage parents and community members as learning facilitators, creating a sustainable ecosystem for education that extends beyond the school.

The ALfA implementation in Ranchi division has begun with full roll-out across districts and are scheduled over the coming academic year. As the partnership between DEVI Sansthan and the Jharkhand Government takes shape, thousands of children stand to benefit from a future of improved learning outcomes and greater educational equity.
