Thiruvananthapuram, India: UST, a leading digital transformation solutions company, has donated 20 desktop computers and set up an IT lab at SMV School in the city as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and the 25th anniversary of the company. The Maharaja of Travancore, Swathi Thirunal, built SMV school, also known as Sree Moola Vilasam Government Model Higher Secondary School, in 1836, making it one of the oldest schools in Kerala.
The CSR initiative by UST is seen as a major support for the students who pursue IT education at the SMV School. The handover of the desktop computers and IT Lab to the school was done on July 2nd by Shilpa Menon, Thiruvananthapuram Centre Head; Nikitha Bahadur, Talent Acquisition; and Roshni Das K, Lead – PR & Marketing, Kerala, as part of the company’s values week celebrations as it commemorates the birthday of founding chairman Mr. GA Menon. The project was planned and coordinated by Sofi Janet, CSR Ambassador, and Vineeth Mohanan, CSR Finance Lead. Kalpana Chandran, Principal, Bindhu SR, NSS Program Officer and Senior Teacher, SethuLal, and Bipin Chatterjee, Computer Science Teachers from SMV School, attended the function.
“Extending a helping hand to students at one of Kerala’s oldest schools gives us immense happiness. UST has always been at the forefront of aiding the educational needs of schools in the state, and we will continue with our efforts in this regard,” said Shilpa Menon, Centre Head – Thiruvananthapuram, UST.
“We are grateful to UST for extending a helping hand by setting up an IT lab in our school. The gesture is sure to go a long way in aiding our students as they pursue more avenues of learning in the field of information technology,” said Kalpana Chandran, Principal, SMV School.
UST, Kerala’s largest IT employer, has been offering support to schools across both urban and rural schools in Kerala by way of building IT labs, setting up IT labs, libraries, donating furniture and the like. The CSR support extended to SMV School in Thiruvananthapuram is one among the many initiatives that the company has taken up. UST also supports a wide range of schools in the state through its ‘Adopt a School’ programme.
