Construction Supervisor Allegedly Kills Daughter Before Taking His Own Life

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic incident involving a 40-year-old construction site supervisor, Kishore Dhanak, has come to light in Gujarat’s Amreli district. He allegedly killed his five-year-old daughter, Himanshi, before taking his own life. This shocking event was uncovered on September 18, 2026, when his wife, Manjuben, returned home after unsuccessfully trying to reach him by phone.

Upon arriving, she discovered a distressing scene. Dhanak was found hanging from a ceiling fan, while the body of his daughter was located inside a refrigerator. The police investigation revealed a room that appeared to have been decoratively arranged with balloons, candles, and chocolates, indicating an unusual and unsettling attempt at a celebration.

In addition to these findings, a paper inscribed with the words “Happy Birthday Himanshi” was discovered next to the refrigerator, despite it not being her birthday. Rajula Deputy Superintendent of Police Nayana Goradiya has confirmed the details surrounding the case, including the alleged circumstances leading to the tragic outcomes.

Suicide Notes Shed Light on Financial Struggles

Following the initial investigations, authorities discovered three suicide notes written by Dhanak. The notes reportedly expressed the man’s financial difficulties, provided explanations for his actions, and included apologies. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Dhanak was grappling with significant financial issues after taking out a personal loan for construction-related investments.

He was expecting a payment of Rs 7.25 lakh from associates, but the funds were never disbursed. The FIR details his desperation, citing that he had exhausted all options and felt compelled to end both his life and that of his daughter. In one of the notes, he allegedly stated his intention was to spare her from suffering after his death.

The situation highlights not only personal tragedy but also the often-hidden struggles individuals face due to financial pressures. This aspect of the case has been emphasised in police reports as they delve deeper into Dhanak’s motivations and state of mind.

Community Reacts to the Incident

The local community has been left in shock by the tragic events, with neighbouring residents expressing their disbelief over the incident. Dhanak was reportedly well-known in the area, making the circumstances surrounding his death particularly unsettling. Inspector P L Chaudhary remarked on the unusual state of the home, suggesting that Dhanak appeared to have arranged what he thought would be a final birthday celebration for his child.

Specifically, the details surrounding Himanshi’s body have raised numerous questions. She was dressed in white attire, with a dupatta placed on her head. Additionally, cushions were found within the refrigerator along with tulsi leaves resting on her lips. This arrangement has led investigators to theorise that Dhanak may have wanted to create a final tribute to his daughter amidst their tragic circumstances.

According to the police, arrangements for a proper investigation are ongoing, and a case has been registered under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to murder. As the inquiry unfolds, the focus remains on delving deeper into the context of this familial tragedy and identifying potential support mechanisms for those experiencing similar financial hardship. The incident underlines the critical need for awareness and the importance of supporting individuals facing economic difficulties.
