Class 6 Jaipur Girl Jumps from School’s Sixth Floor; School Accused of Tampering Evidence

The CSR Journal Magazine

A sixth standard girl student of Neerja Modi School situated in Mansarovar area of Jaipur, Rajasthan allegedly jumped from the sixth floor of the school building, died on Saturday. This incident has raised serious questions on children’s safety in school and currently investigation is underway over the circumstances that led to her death.

Was the crime scene of teen suicide tampered?

As per the first initial report and statement by an eyewitness, school administration allegedly cleared the spot and washed the area from where the student allegedly jumped, they did this before the cops’ arrival. As per the eyewitness, the school authorities poured water to erase evidence, however faint traces of blood stains are still visible. This act by the school authority has brought them under scanner and has raised questions on why the evidence was tampered and whether school authorities have some role to play in the death of the student.

Was academic pressure key reason behind the teen suicide?

Currently police are investigating different possibilities and one possibility of pressure from teachers and emotional distress and harassment hasn’t been ruled out. As per some students, the girl was under academic pressure from her teacher, although the claims are yet to be verified.

As per police, currently the case is being considered as a suicide as the girl student reached the sixth floor all by herself from the lower level where her class was, however all possibilities are open and police is probing all angles if it was an external pressure or some kind of negligence.

In a statement to the media, Lakhan Singh, SHO, Mansarovar Police Station, said, “She is a girl from the 6th grade. After receiving information about her falling from the roof, we reached Metro Mas Hospital, where she lost her life. Her parents have reached the site. We are collecting the witnesses. No written or verbal complaint has been submitted yet.”

Serious question of negligence by school authority

The tragedy has caused massive outcry, not just because a student died in school premises, but because the school tried to hide the evidence from the police. The school authority washed the area from where the girl allegedly jumped, this tampering of evidence and crucial forensic traces has caused an outburst.
Police in the statement have clearly mentioned that they are investigating all possible angles, parents and local residents have claimed that the girl child was severely tortured by the teacher. As per the report, the classroom in which the victim studied was on the ground floor, now the question arises why and how she reached the sixth floor.

What the police has to say on Neerja Modi suicide case?

The Additional District Education Officer, Sanjay Srivastava and other officials from the Education Department reached Neerja Modi School. Srivastava said, “They (those responsible) should come forward. They should tell us what happened. All the necessary legal action will be taken. It is a matter of investigation. We will conduct the investigation with full responsibility, and whatever regulatory action is required will be implemented while taking legal action.”

School Education Minister Madan Dilawar said, “It seems there were no elaborate security arrangements in the school, which should have been made by the authorities. I have asked the district education officer to investigate the matter and submit a report.”
