Instagram Affair Turns Deadly: Chhattisgarh Woman, 15-Year-Younger Lover Kill Husband with Axe

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking incident has come to light from Balodabazar district, Chhattisgarh. Here, a 40-year-old woman allegedly conspired with her 25-year-old Instagram boyfriend to murder her husband. Police identified the woman as Chandrika Giri and her lover as Tunna Kumar Sharma.

The man worked in Chennai earning around ₹70,000 per month. The pair had been in an online relationship for nearly four years before turning it into a secret romance.

Secret Meetings and Family Deception

Chandrika, a mother of three, introduced Tunna to her children as an “uncle” while secretly planning a future together. As her husband, Amrit Giri (45), grew suspicious, arguments between the couple intensified. Police said the duo meticulously planned the murder, meeting in a Raipur hotel days before the crime to discuss entry points, hiding the weapon, and escape strategies.

Murder Executed During Cultural Event

The murder took place on October 24, a day when a local cultural event ensured most villagers were away. Tunna allegedly sneaked into Chandrika’s home through the roof around midnight and struck Amrit twice on the head with an axe while he slept on the sofa. Amrit died instantly. Tunna then discarded the weapon near Raipur railway station and fled to Chennai via truck lift.

The following morning, Chandrika raised an alarm, claiming an unknown assailant had killed her husband. Investigators immediately noticed inconsistencies in her account. Examination of phone records revealed extensive communication with Tunna, which led police to trace him to Chennai, where he was arrested from his workplace.

Confession and Arrests

During interrogation, Tunna confessed to carrying out the murder, explaining he initially wanted to back out but attacked when Amrit unexpectedly woke up. The murder weapon was recovered near Raipur railway station. Chandrika later admitted to conspiring with Tunna. Both are now in custody, and police are preparing charges for murder and criminal conspiracy under relevant IPC sections.

Authorities continue to investigate the couple’s motivations and the planning process. This incident highlights the dangers of online relationships and secretive extramarital affairs, culminating in a violent crime that shocked the local community.
