The Indian government has sanctioned Rs 747.72 crore for the development of 26 road and bridge projects in Assam. This allocation includes Rs 617.98 crore for ten road projects under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) and Rs 129.74 crore for 16 bridge projects under the CRIF Setu Bandhan scheme. These projects are expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve transportation efficiency, reduce travel time, and foster socio-economic development across the state.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, shared the announcement on social media, emphasising the positive impact these initiatives will have on transportation and local trade. According to Gadkari, the projects will facilitate more efficient movement of goods and people, ultimately contributing to the state’s economic growth.
Inauguration of Bridge and Highway in Majuli
On February 12, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma initiated the construction of the Majuli-Jorhat bridge along with its connecting highway in the Majuli district. This development is aimed at accelerating growth in the Satra hub of Majuli. The inauguration ceremony took place at Manika Pathar in Garmur.
CM Announces Additional Investments in Majuli
During his visit to Majuli, Chief Minister Sarma inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for multiple projects totaling Rs 2,218 crore. He also distributed cheques to 31,952 beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahajati Unnayan Abhiyan (MMUA) scheme. Among the projects inaugurated were various government offices and academic buildings, including the academic building and girls’ hostel of Majuli Cultural University. These facilities aim to enhance education and local infrastructure.
Details of Academic Facilities at Majuli Cultural University
The academic building and girls’ hostel at Majuli Cultural University were developed at a cost of Rs 51 crore. The three-storey academic building is designed to accommodate 1,880 students and features administrative offices, staff rooms, and various educational facilities. The four-storey girls’ hostel is constructed to house 178 students, supporting the educational initiatives in the region.
Investment in Other Government Projects
Further investments include the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office in Garamur, constructed at a cost of Rs 24.83 crore, and the District Transport Officer’s Office located between Garmur and Kamalabari, built for Rs 3.57 crore. These developments are part of a broader effort to improve public administration and services in Assam.
