Rabri Devi and Tej Pratap asked to vacate government bungalows in Patna by Nitish Kumar government

The CSR Journal Magazine

With the results of the recent Bihar Assembly Elections, Lalu Prasad Yadav family’s dreams of forming a government in the state has been shattered. Once again, the NDA has come to power in the state. After seizing power, the Nitish Kumar government has taken strict action against the Lalu family. After almost two decades, Yadav family is going to be vacated from the government residences they have been occupying for so long.

An order has been issued to vacate the government bungalow at 10 Circular Road in Patna, which was allotted in the name of Lalu Prasad Yadav’s wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi. Their elder son Tej Pratap Yadav has also been ordered to vacate his government-allotted house, putting a pressure on the Lalu Prasad family’s long-held properties in Patna. Tej Pratap currently occupies the 26, M Strand Road bungalow, which has now been reassigned to Minister Lakhendra Kumar Raushan under the new NDA government’s allocation process. The decision has triggered political curiosity across Patna.

Why 10 Circular Road bungalow in Patna is significant?

What makes this address so important in Bihar’s political circle? The government bungalow at 10 Circular Road where the Lalu Yadav family has been residing for over two decades was the main centre of RJD’s political activities. After nearly fifteen years in power, the Lalu family moved into the Opposition in 2005. When Nitish Kumar became Chief Minister and shifted to 1 Aney Marg, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi vacated the official residence. She was then allotted 10 Circular Road, a bungalow located right next to the Chief Minister’s house. Since that time, the Lalu Yadav family has lived continuously at 10 Circular Road, and the bungalow has remained in Rabri Devi’s name regardless of her political position.

Rabri Devi has been ordered to vacate the bungalow by the Bihar Building Construction Department. The order states that housing has to be allotted for the new ministers of the NDA government. According to the government order, the Yadav family’s new address is going to be 39 Central Pool House in Patna’s Harding Road.

Meanwhile, the BJP has informed that Rabri Devi has to vacate her bungalow as per the rules. BJP leader Neeraj Kumar took a dig at the Lalu family and said, “The record of that family is not good. So, the government will keep a close eye on whether any property is being taken away while vacating the house.”

Lalu’s daughter Rohini Acharya reacts

After this eviction notice came to light, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s estranged daughter Rohini Acharya has taken a jibe at the Nitish Kumar government. She wrote on her X handle, “Sushasan Babu’s development model. Insulting Lalu Prasad Yadav, the messiah of millions, is the top priority. They may throw him out of the house, but how will you throw him out of the hearts of Bihar’s people? If not his health, at least respect Lalu Ji’s political stature.”
