Bengaluru Lecturer Detained After Proposing to Medical Student in Classroom, Video Viral

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a surprising turn of events, a lecturer from Nelamangala Siddhartha Medical College in Bengaluru was apprehended by rural police following an alleged proposal made to a student. The incident, which occurred on campus, reportedly involved the lecturer presenting flowers and chocolates to the student. This action triggered significant unrest among other students, who expressed their anger over what they perceived as harassment.

Witnesses describe a chaotic scene where students reacted violently towards the lecturer, leading to a physical altercation. The lecturer managed to evade immediate capture, escaping the site of the incident. A video capturing the scuffle soon circulated on various social media platforms, drawing widespread attention.

Subsequently, the lecturer was detained and subjected to questioning by officers from the Nelamangala rural police. Despite the upheaval, it is noteworthy that no formal complaint has been lodged by the college regarding the episode. This lack of an official grievance has raised questions about the procedural follow-up to such incidents on campus.

Previous Incident of Assault in New Delhi

In an unrelated incident, earlier this month, a troubling event unfolded in New Delhi involving a young woman from Manipur, who was reportedly assaulted near the Saket District Court Complex. It is said that while the girl was walking in a park with friends, they were subjected to inappropriate remarks from a group of men. The situation escalated when the victim expressed her discontent, leading to an alleged physical attack by the group.

The injured individual was promptly transported to Safdarjung Hospital for necessary medical treatment. Initial findings indicate that her injuries are minor and she is expected to recover fully. Law enforcement agencies have initiated contact with the victim to advance the investigation into the assault.

Racial Abuse Case Under Judicial Scrutiny

In a separate case from February, two individuals accused of racial harassment and criminal intimidation of three women from Arunachal Pradesh in New Delhi’s Malviya Nagar were placed in 14-day judicial custody. The arrests followed an incident on February 20, where the women, living in an apartment complex, reported experiencing mental harassment and degradation from the accused, although no physical injuries occurred.

The events escalated from a minor grievance to a significant confrontation, necessitating police intervention. Authorities have confirmed that an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) is overseeing the investigation, which is being closely monitored by higher-ranking officials in the department.
