The CSR Journal Magazine

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declared a cash reward of Rs 131 crores for Team India in recognition of their remarkable success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. This win marks a significant milestone as India retained the T20 World Cup title, becoming the first team to achieve this feat in the tournament’s history. The final match saw India overpower New Zealand by 96 runs, solidifying their status as the champions while hosting the event.

Outstanding Performances in the Final

During the final, Team India showcased impressive performances, particularly with the bat, where Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan contributed fiery half-centuries. A standout moment was the explosive batting display from Abhishek Sharma, who scored 52 runs off just 21 balls, aided by an impressive partnership with Samson, which totaled 98 runs. Samson also played a crucial role by partnering with Kishan, who added 54 runs from 25 balls, to push India’s total past the 200-run mark.

India Sets Record Total

India concluded their innings at a formidable score of 255 runs for the loss of five wickets, marking the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup final. Shivam Dube contributed a swift 26 runs in just eight balls, helping the team secure a dominant position. For New Zealand, James Neesham emerged as the leading wicket-taker with figures of 3 for 46.

New Zealand’s Struggles in the Chase

In pursuit of the challenging target of 256 runs, New Zealand faced immediate challenges, slipping to 72 for 5 under the pressure of India’s bowling attack. Axar Patel led the way with a fine bowling performance, securing 3 wickets for 23 runs, while Jasprit Bumrah delivered an exceptional spell, claiming 4 wickets for just 15 runs. Despite a resilient half-century from Tim Seifert, who scored 52 runs off 26 balls, the Kiwis struggled to build lasting partnerships.

Final Outcome of the Match

New Zealand’s innings came to a halt at 159 runs, falling significantly short of the target. The match concluded with India producing a comprehensive performance in both batting and bowling departments. The BCCI, in its announcement, extended congratulations to the players, support staff, and selectors for this momentous accomplishment and expressed wishes for their continued success in future cricketing endeavors.
