Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday launched and inaugurated a series of development projects worth more than Rs 300 crore across districts in the Bodoland Territorial Region, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and boosting socio-economic growth in the area.

In Udalguri, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a Rs 150-crore mini-secretariat of the Bodoland Territorial Council, to be built on over 25 bighas of land. The proposed five-storey complex will house several BTC departments, a conference hall and a legislative assembly building.

The facility will also include a guest house, residential quarters for officials and staff, as well as internal roads and parking infrastructure, Sarma said.

He also laid the foundation stone for a Rs 63.45-crore railway flyover at Golma Chowk–Mission Chariali Road in Udalguri. The flyover is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time and support the district’s economic development. Sarma added that a badminton facility is being planned beneath the flyover to make optimal use of public space.

Water supply project, aid for women entrepreneurs

The Chief Minister virtually inaugurated the ₹36-crore Tangla Town Water Supply Project (Phases I and II), designed to provide safe and reliable drinking water to residents. The project is expected to significantly improve urban infrastructure and public welfare in the town.

During the programme, Sarma also distributed financial assistance of Rs 10,000 each to 26,988 women in the Tangla Assembly constituency under a scheme supporting women entrepreneurs. He said Tangla has become the 114th Assembly constituency to be covered under the initiative, aimed at promoting women’s dignity and self-reliance.
