Apple’s iPhone Fold Set for Upcoming Launch

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple is on the verge of introducing its first foldable smartphone, aligning itself with competitors in the market. This device is reportedly dubbed the iPhone Fold and may debut with features that signify a significant departure from the traditional iPhone designs.

The anticipated design for the iPhone Fold includes a book-style format with a 7.8-inch internal OLED display. This innovative screen size presents a more expansive area compared to other folding devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 or the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Notably, the internal display may feature a slight crease.

Externally, the phone is rumoured to possess a 5.5-inch OLED display. In terms of durability, Apple could incorporate a LiquidMetal hinge, marking it as the first iPhone to utilise this material. Additionally, the device may feature a titanium framework along with a ceramic shield or glass back.

It has been suggested that the iPhone Fold will replace Face ID with a Touch ID sensor embedded in the power button, allowing the design to maintain a slimmer profile. Furthermore, both displays might feature punch-hole cameras instead of Apple’s Dynamic Island.

Performance, Battery, and Connectivity

In terms of performance, the iPhone Fold is likely to be powered by Apple’s upcoming A20 Pro chip, which is expected to be built on a 2nm manufacturing process. This will enable advancements in performance and energy efficiency when compared to the previous A19 Pro found in the iPhone 17 Pro series.

Reports suggest that the device will be equipped with 12GB of RAM and offer storage options up to 1TB. Additionally, the iPhone Fold may feature a battery capacity ranging from 5,400 to 5,800mAh, making it the most powerful battery in an iPhone to date. Similar to the iPhone Air, this model might support only eSIM functionality, lacking a physical SIM tray.

When it comes to cameras, specifications indicate that the iPhone Fold will house a total of four cameras, including a dual rear setup featuring a 48-megapixel main sensor and an additional 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor. However, details regarding whether the front-facing cameras will include the new 18-megapixel centre-stage sensor from the iPhone 17 series remain uncertain.

Expected Launch Date and Pricing of the iPhone Fold

The iPhone Fold is projected to be unveiled in September 2026, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, availability may be staggered, delaying customer access due to challenges in production. This mirrors a strategy Apple employed with the iPhone X when it was released alongside the iPhone 8 series nearly a decade ago.

Moreover, the standard iPhone 18 is anticipated to launch in early 2027 alongside the iPhone 18e and the new iPhone Air. Current estimates surrounding the pricing of the iPhone Fold indicate it may retail between $2,000 and $2,400 in the United States, which translates to approximately Rs 1,85,000 to Rs 2,24,000.

As more information emerges, Apple remains reticent regarding specific features and details surrounding the iPhone Fold, keeping enthusiasts eager for the much-anticipated launch.
