Amit Shah Promises Swift Execution of Ghatal Master Plan if BJP Wins in Bengal

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a significant critique of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) regarding its governance and flood management strategies in West Bengal. Speaking at a public meeting in Debra constituency on April 10, 2025, Shah asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would execute the long-awaited Ghatal Master Plan within one year if the party secured victory in the upcoming assembly elections. His comments were aimed at highlighting the alleged failures of the TMC government in addressing recurring flood issues in the Ghatal region.

Shah emphasised the severity of the flooding situation in Ghatal, noting a master plan sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, valued at Rs 1,500 crore, which the TMC allegedly disregarded. According to Shah, this development plan aimed to tackle the flooding crisis and was partially funded by the central government. He accused the TMC of neglecting this crucial proposal, which he argued would have provided significant relief to the affected areas.

During his remarks, Shah urged the public not to be disheartened by the current government’s shortcomings, promising that a BJP-led administration would prioritise the implementation of the Ghatal Master Plan. He stated that the plan would bring about a permanent solution to the flooding issues that have plagued the region for years.

BJP Unveils Election Manifesto for West Bengal Assembly Elections

On the same day, Amit Shah introduced the BJP’s election manifesto in Kolkata, highlighting a vision for “Sonar Bangla” (Golden Bengal). This document was presented as a comprehensive roadmap aimed at achieving substantial changes in governance and addressing the state’s pressing concerns. Shah stated that the manifesto outlines key initiatives focusing on various aspects, including national security, employment opportunities for youth, and ensuring women’s safety.

Shah specified that the manifesto includes 15 major commitments directed at rectifying governance failures and tackling development challenges in West Bengal. The BJP’s strategy aims to present a clear alternative to the electorate ahead of the assembly elections, which are set to be conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 4.

Highlighting the urgency of the proposed changes, Shah asserted that the BJP government would implement several initiatives rapidly upon taking office. He indicated that the party’s proposed changes represent a ‘radical shift’ aimed at transforming governance in the state, with particular attention to the needs of the youth and vulnerable groups.

Commitment to Uniform Civil Code in West Bengal

During his address in Kolkata, Shah further claimed that the BJP would enforce the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) within six months of assuming power in West Bengal. This statement aligns with the party’s broader agenda of applying uniform laws across different communities, a move that Shah stated had already been realised in several states governed by the BJP. He positioned the UCC as a necessary reform for ensuring equality among citizens.

Shah’s comments come as the political atmosphere in West Bengal grows increasingly competitive. The state has witnessed a diverse spectrum of political discourse surrounding governance, development, and social equity. As the elections approach, Shah’s assertions emphasise the BJP’s commitment to pursuing these goals, should they secure electoral support from the citizenry.

The unfolding political developments in West Bengal continue to capture national attention, with various parties, including the TMC, preparing to contest the upcoming elections. The BJP’s promises, as articulated by Shah, aim to resonate with voters seeking effective governance in the state amidst ongoing challenges.
