Akhilesh Yadav Reiterates Opposition to Electronic Voting Machines

The CSR Journal Magazine

The president of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, expressed his unwavering opposition to electronic voting machines (EVMs) during a press conference on Monday. He stated that even if the party were to secure every seat in an election, their stance would remain unchanged. Yadav raised concerns about the reliance on advanced technology in the electoral process, contrasting it with countries like Germany and the United States, which predominantly use paper ballots.

Strategy Against BJP Outlined

Yadav further claimed that the BJP faces increased vulnerability in the upcoming elections. He expressed confidence that voters would independently choose to remove the party from power. “The people are ready to remove it this time,” he noted, as he reaffirmed the significance of his party’s planned approach in the political landscape.

When pressed about potential protests regarding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Yadav affirmed that the party had crafted plans to challenge the BJP effectively. He conveyed that efforts would be concentrated on electoral strategies rather than street activism at this juncture. Yadav also brought attention to alleged irregularities concerning donations and offerings at the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

He articulated that these issues have significantly distressed devotees, asserting, “People who believe in Sanatan Dharma are very hurt and distressed.” Allegations surrounding the mismanagement of donations reportedly exposed dishonesty that has upset many followers. In light of these claims, the Uttar Pradesh government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the alleged irregularities.

Yadav questioned the transparency of the investigations and voiced skepticism about the authorities’ handling of the situation, stating, “I will repeat the same thing—they are very afraid of CCTVs.” He further elaborated on concerns about the announced handling of the donations, wondering aloud about the accuracy of the accounting for the metals received. “Nobody knows the amount stolen from the temple. How much was stolen? How much metal was stolen? And how much metal was replaced?” he queried, casting doubt on the competency of those in charge.

Yadav’s Concerns Over Institutional Integrity

In summary, Yadav’s press conference served as a platform for reiterating his party’s opposition to EVMs and detailing their electoral strategy against the BJP. Furthermore, he raised significant inquiries regarding the handling of financial matters at the Ram temple, signalling a broader concern for the integrity of religious institutions as well as electoral processes.

The matter of temple donations remains a pressing issue for Yadav, who believes that the handling of these funds has eroded trust among devotees. He challenged the authorities to clarify the discrepancies and offered that such issues highlight the need for improved oversight in both religious and political spheres.

Yadav’s articulated views reflect a strategic approach as the Samajwadi Party prepares for future electoral challenges. By addressing both technological and ethical concerns, he aims to solidify the party’s position and gain the confidence of the electorate as the political landscape evolves.
