Bollywood icon and Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has once again captivated global attention at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. This comes after turning heads in a traditional ivory saree and red sindoor on Day 1.
The actress brought forth a powerful blend of contemporary fashion and cultural homage on Day 2. Aishwariya wore a dramatic black gown and Banarasi cape designed by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta.
“Heiress of Clam”: A Couture Marvel
According to reports, Aishwarya’s second look is named as the Heiress of Clam. The dress is a custom creation by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta. The corseted black gown featured intricate embroidery that depicted an abstract interpretation of the cosmos. The cape is also rendered in hues of silver, gold, charcoal, and black. In addition, micro-glass crystals added shimmering detail to the dress, enhancing the sense of dimension and light to her look.
The gown was styled with a handwoven Banarasi brocade cape, created in Varanasi. The standout piece was inscribed with a revered Sanskrit shloka from the Bhagavad Gita.
Shloka: “कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन। मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि॥”

Translation: “You have a right to perform your actions, but not to the fruits of those actions. Let not the fruits of action be your motive, nor let your attachment be to inaction.”
Beauty and Accessories
Aishwarya opted for relaxed beachy waves with a deep side part ditching her signature sleek hair look. Her makeup featured a bold red lip, minimal eyeliner, and silver eyeshadow for a luminous touch. Instead of a heavy necklace, she accessorized with statement rings. This included her signature inverted V wedding band and elegant drop earrings.
The designer took to his Instagram handle to elaborate about the outfit, “Heiress of Clam” and shared “creation imagined in a draped form and spiritual detail”.
