To mark the completion of 25 years, OM Creations Trust organised an exhibition ‘The Art Trisomy 21’ to showcase work of art created by individuals suffering from Down syndrome. The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Amruta Fadnavis, Vice President Axis Bank.

Om Creations Trust, a non-profit organisation works towards educational rehabilitation of specially-abled women aiming to economically empower them.

The exhibition titles originates from from ‘Trisomy 21’, the condition commonly known as Down’s syndrome. The aim was to raise funds and utilise the proceeds that would go towards setting up, Om Abode – A community living facility.

The community living facility is proposed to come up near Khandpe, Karjat on a 12.5 acre site. It will act as a multi-functional institute which would provide skill development, vocational workshops, a research centre, library, medical centre, and living facility for differently-abled residents, etc.

Not only will the differently-abled students have an opportunity to live in an accepted environment but also have an opportunity to make a livelihood for themselves. The institute is planning to raise money through selling products and give students a sense of purposefulness.

The organisation believes that art helps individuals express themselves and their emotion. Differently-abled individuals have plenty to express, language can not always be a barrier. The artwork created speaks about their feelings, expressions and underlying dream which the organisation strives for individuals to realize.

Dr.Radhike Khanna, Founder Trustee, Om Creations Trust speaking at the initiative said, “With support from corporate houses and individuals we have come so far. We are optimist that Om Abode will contribute towards creating a sustainable difference for the differently-abled individuals. With events like this we try and raise funds for expanding our work.”

The project aims to accommodate 360 students and 140 staff members, which will also have an amphitheatre to collaborate with artists from different avenues. Apart from training students the project will also train communities nearby who can benefit through various skill training project. The project aims to incorporate sustainable practices like rain water harvesting, solar lighting that will take into account environmental concerns.
