With an aim to support talented school students from underprivileged background, the Government of Jharkhand is planning to host an exhibition-cum-sale of their artworks. In the exhibition, children will not only be able to showcase their artistic skills, but they will also be able to digitally market their creation and earn money from the sale.

Child Artist Exhibition

The ‘Child Artist Exhibition’ has been conceived by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and is a first of its kind initiative in the state. The exhibition will be hosted at Audrey House in Ranchi from 3rd to 5th November.
The exhibition will feature paintings and crafts created by students along with sale of selected products. The purpose is to bring about holistic development of government school children and highlight their individual talent, especially students who belong to unprivileged backgrounds.

For government and private school students

However, the exhibition is not only for government school students. Students of private schools can also participate in the exhibition along with those studying in government institutions. Schools will be provided with a link where they can upload the best paintings and crafts of students for featuring in the exhibition. The artworks shortlisted by the council will be displayed digitally.
School students will have to register their participation through their headmaster/principal with their respective district nodal officer. Their artworks will be selected based on a committee recommendation. However, only the government school students taking part in the exhibition will be provided with travel, food and lodging arrangements, private school students will have to arrange their own expenses.

“The exhibition-cum-sale event will not only help bring out students’ talents but also provide them a platform to sell their paintings and crafts. This is an effort to link the creations of the students with the market. Such an event is being organised in Jharkhand for the first time. Such events will be held every year from now on. Besides, we plan to link the artworks of the children with the digital market so that they can earn money,” said Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC) director Kiran Kumari Pasi.

Sale to benefit school as well

The paintings and crafts which will be sold at the exhibition will benefit not only the students, but also the teacher and the school. A percentage from the money earned from a certain artwork will go to the school and the art & crafts teacher. The artist (student) will get 80 per cent of the amount, while the school and art teacher will receive 15 per cent and five per cent respectively.
Apart from exhibitions of painting and crafts, live creation of the products will be on display. There will also be demo classes for visiting and participating students by eminent art and craft teachers. Apart from this, digital marketing specialists will guide students regarding how to market their products.
