Amit Shah Conducts Grand Roadshow in Paschim Bardhaman

The CSR Journal Magazine

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister of India, spearheaded an extensive roadshow in Durgapur, located in the Paschim Bardhaman district, on April 13, 2026. The event attracted a substantial number of supporters, creating a vibrant atmosphere that was predominantly saffron in colour. Shah’s procession wound through bustling streets, evidencing the strong backing he enjoys from local constituents.

Upon posting on the social media platform X, Shah expressed confidence in the political landscape, stating that the residents of Paschim Bardhaman are prepared to remove the Trinamool Congress (TMC) from power. He used phrases in both Hindi and Bengali to emphasise his message, declaring that the people are ready for change and to uproot the TMC from its foundations.

The enthusiasm shown by the crowd underscored the BJP’s strategy to establish itself as a formidable alternative to the ruling party in West Bengal. Shah’s message resonated with the supporters, who gathered in large numbers to witness his address.

Critique of Mamata Banerjee’s Leadership

Earlier on the same day, Amit Shah addressed a public rally at the Palli Mangal Club Ground in Mayureshwar, where he directly criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He questioned her recent comments advising women to avoid going out after 7 PM, a response he linked to incidents of violence, including the RG Kar rape case. Shah accused the TMC administration of failing to ensure safety for women in the state.

He articulated a stark contrast between his party and the current government, promising that under a BJP administration, women would feel secure enough to travel at any hour. Shah alluded to various troubling incidents, arguing that they highlighted the inadequacies of Banerjee’s tenure.

Shah extended his critique, claiming that Banerjee had perpetuated fear among constituents, particularly the majority community. He referred to riots and security concerns during her governance, framing the BJP as a party that could restore safety and security.

Anticipation for Upcoming Elections

Looking ahead to the upcoming state Assembly elections, Shah described them as pivotal for West Bengal. He asserted that the influence of TMC ‘goons’ would soon diminish, enabling the public to exercise their rights through voting. He invited the electorate to look for the BJP’s lotus symbol when casting their votes, signalling a clear choice between the two parties.

Shah warned those affiliated with the TMC, asserting that they should refrain from any disruptive actions, particularly on election day, or face repercussions following the vote counting on May 4. His language was firm, illustrating the high stakes involved in the political rivalry.

The 294-member West Bengal Assembly elections are scheduled to take place in two phases, with polling set for April 23 and April 29. The counting of votes is expected to occur on May 4. This election cycle is seen as crucial for both the BJP and TMC, potentially altering the political dynamics in the region.
