“No LPG Shortage in Delhi; Supply Stable and Under Control”: Delhi CM

The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has stated that there is currently no shortage of domestic and commercial LPG supplies in the capital. During a statement on April 13, she reassured residents about the stability and adequacy of fuel supplies, urging the public to remain composed and not succumb to rumours or panic regarding fuel availability.

In her update, the Chief Minister noted that on April 12, a noteworthy figure of 1,11,766 bookings for domestic LPG was recorded. The three Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) delivered a total of 1,30,094 cylinders, which exceeds the number of bookings made. This data suggests that any backlogs are being addressed efficiently, thereby confirming the robustness of the supply chain.

Gupta indicated that the average delivery time for LPG has improved to 3.87 days from a previous rate of 4.24 days, ensuring that residents receive timely delivery to their doorsteps. She emphasised that this is a positive development in maintaining a consistent supply for the citizens of Delhi.

Commercial LPG Supply Also Reported to be Sufficient

Furthermore, Delhi has been allocated 6,480 LPG cylinders daily, equivalent to 19 kg each, to meet commercial demands. Recent data shows that the average daily offtake for the past week was only 4,268 cylinders, which includes deliveries of 5 kg Free Trade LPG cylinders. This discrepancy indicates an oversupply in relation to the current demand.

In light of this, Chief Minister Gupta has requested all commercial LPG users, especially those using 5 kg cylinders, to refrain from unnecessary concerns or stockpiling. She reaffirmed that the distribution system across the capital is operating smoothly, with adequate reserves consistently available.

In addition, a dedicated control room has been established by the Food and Civil Supplies Department to assist consumers with any issues related to obtaining LPG cylinders. Commercial users experiencing difficulties may reach out to the contact numbers 011-23379836 or 8383824659, operational from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm every day of the week.

Promotion of Piped Natural Gas and Alternative Cooking Methods

The government is encouraging both consumers and institutions to transition to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) wherever feasible, citing its reliability for a continuous fuel supply. It is particularly recommended for bulk users such as hospitals and educational institutions to adopt PNG to enhance efficiency, safety, and the reliability of their fuel supply.

Additionally, in a move towards sustainability, residents are being prompted to consider electric or induction cooking as a medium- to long-term alternative. These options may provide a dependable energy source, ensuring uninterrupted access to cooking facilities.

Finally, Chief Minister Gupta reiterated that the Delhi government is vigilantly monitoring the LPG supply situation on a daily basis. The government remains devoted to guaranteeing an uninterrupted flow of LPG throughout the capital, ensuring residents’ needs are satisfactorily met at all times.
