The recent arrest of a canteen guard in Bihar follows the alleged rape and murder of a five-year-old boy in Jehanabad district. The unfortunate incident occurred on April 6 at a private school hostel situated within the Karauna police station area. The child was discovered with grievous injuries, including a slit throat, and was subsequently transported to a local medical facility, then referred to Patna for urgent treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigation Details

A senior police officer, Aprajit Lohan, highlighted the establishment of a special investigation team tasked with examining the case due to its severity. Initial inquiries led to the detention of the hostel operator, Tarun Kumar, also known as Gandhi. Following interrogation, Kumar was remanded to custody. As the investigation unfolded, attention turned towards the canteen guard, Mukesh Kumar, alias Sudama, who resides in the Pali police station area. Authorities took him into custody, and it is reported that he confessed to the crime during extended questioning.

The forensic findings indicated that the child had been sexually assaulted prior to the homicide. Police also analysed security footage from the hostel, which displayed the suspect’s movements around the time of the incident, reinforcing the evidence against him. During his interrogation, Kumar reportedly claimed to have been living alone after his wife left him and expressed feelings of mental distress. He further alleged a conflict with the hostel operator and mentioned his intent to tarnish the hostel’s reputation and have it shut down, which he cited as his motive.

Authorities are cross-examining these assertions as part of their ongoing investigation to ascertain the true nature of the events leading to the child’s death.
