West Bengal Backing BJP’s Development Agenda, Says PM Modi After Asansol Roadshow

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his conviction that the citizens of West Bengal are aligning with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) vision for development. His statements followed a roadshow conducted in Asansol on April 10, 2026, which preceded the forthcoming Assembly elections.

During the event, the Prime Minister noted the eagerness displayed by attendees and relayed his assurance about the BJP’s prospects in the region. He conveyed through a social media platform that the enthusiasm observed was indicative of West Bengal’s support for the BJP’s agenda, stating that it would not back the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the elections.

Campaign Efforts and Accusations Against the TMC

The Prime Minister’s roadshow in Asansol witnessed a substantial turnout, with many supporters actively showing their allegiance to the BJP. In a public rally held during the roadshow, he referred to April 23 as the “moment of decision for the future,” positioning the impending elections as a pivotal event for the state.

Modi accused the ruling TMC of allegedly harassing Hindu communities and claimed that the party’s current practices mirror past threats to these groups. He emphasised that the people of West Bengal are looking for stability and security and asserted that the BJP has already fortified India’s western borders while pledging to ensure eastern borders will be secure as well.

He articulated concerns over the alleged intimidation of Hindus and discussed the broader implications for the future of Bengal, calling for a government that prioritises safety and sustenance for its citizens. Modi stated his belief that the BJP would usher in a new era of governance post-election, pledging a “double-engine government” if elected.

Additional Campaign Developments and Manifesto Announcement

On the same day as Modi’s statements, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced shortly before the BJP will unveil its West Bengal manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra’, in Kolkata. This action marks an escalation in the BJP’s campaign against the incumbent TMC administration.

Shah underscored the desire for change among the populace of West Bengal, contending that residents are eager to move away from what he termed the TMC’s “reign of terror.” Through social media, he conveyed his intent to engage directly with the state’s citizens, promoting public meetings and a roadshow in various locations, including Debra and Kharagpur.

The upcoming elections will determine the composition of the 294-member Assembly in West Bengal, scheduled in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with vote counting to occur on May 4. The BJP aims to position itself as a viable alternative to the existing government, focusing on development and security in its campaign messaging.
