Authorities in Bengaluru have arrested a 28-year-old construction worker named Mohammad Munna, originally from Bihar, in connection with the alleged rape of an 11-year-old girl. The incident reportedly occurred on the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2025, when the minor was playing outside her home.

According to police reports, Munna allegedly lured the girl to a nearby under-construction building, where he is accused of assaulting her. Following the attack, he allegedly attempted to silence her by giving her Rs 150 and advising her not to disclose the incident to anyone.

The girl’s parents became concerned when she did not return home for an unusually long time. When she eventually arrived back, her parents noticed the cash she had received and began questioning her, leading to her traumatic revelation about the assault. They immediately took her to the Jnanabharathi Police Station to report the crime.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

Upon receiving the complaint, police officers registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Munna. He was swiftly apprehended, and law enforcement is conducting a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South West Bengaluru confirmed that a case has been filed under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

In addition to the charges of rape, the case is being pursued under sections relating to atrocities against children. Munna, who is reportedly in the city for work, is currently held in custody while the investigation continues.

The authorities are working to gather more information regarding Munna’s background, including any previous offences that may inform the current investigation and legal proceedings. They are ensuring that the case is processed under stringent child protection laws.

Support for the Victim

Following the incident, the 11-year-old victim is receiving necessary medical treatment and psychological counselling to help her cope with the traumatic experience. Mental health support is a critical component of the response to such incidents, and professionals are working closely with the child to provide the needed care.

The police department is taking the situation seriously and emphasises the importance of safeguarding children by adhering to established protocols in cases of sexual assault. Their continued efforts are aimed at not only securing justice for the victim but also preventing such incidents in the future.

As investigations unfold, the authorities remain dedicated to transparency and community awareness. They are encouraging individuals to report any similar incidents or suspicious activity, affirming a commitment to protecting children from harm.
