Manipur CM Transfers Tronglaobi Bomb Attack Investigation to NIA

The CSR Journal Magazine

Manipur’s Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, announced that the state government has decided to transfer the investigation of the bomb attack that occurred in Tronglaobi to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). This declaration was made during a press conference held at his official bungalow on April 7, following a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two children in the early hours of the same day. The Chief Minister condemned the attack, describing it as an act orchestrated by individuals or groups with malicious intentions aimed at disrupting the peace in the region.

The decision to hand over the case to the NIA follows extensive consultations with the Home Minister and other members of the Legislative Assembly. Reports indicate that the Chief Minister expressed concern about the ongoing threat to safety in the state, emphasising that the individuals responsible for this incident remain unidentified. In response, he stated that a large-scale combing operation is currently in progress, involving various security forces.

Security measures have been significantly intensified, with the involvement of combined forces from the State Police, Assam Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Helicopters are being deployed to assist in the operations, and the Chief Minister assured that efforts are underway to apprehend the attackers swiftly.

Intensified Security Operations and Public Appeal

During a high-level security review meeting, which included representatives from the Army, Assam Rifles, State Police, and CRPF, the Chief Minister issued directives to reinforce operational efforts to find the perpetrators of the Tronglaobi bombing. He called upon the public to remain composed and not succumb to emotional reactions following this distressing event. Emphasising the importance of community support, he urged citizens to cooperate with security forces in restoring stability in the region.

Manipur Home Minister Konthoujam Govindas Singh supported the Chief Minister’s statements, labelling the individuals responsible for the attack as disruptors of peace. He highlighted the necessity for vigilance, especially when normalcy begins to return to the state. The Home Minister conveyed that security officers were instructed to conduct thorough combing operations with orders to capture the suspects, emphasising a zero-tolerance approach towards such acts.

Additionally, the state commandos have been redeployed to the hill areas to reinforce security operations. They are being equipped with bulletproof vehicles to enhance their effectiveness. The urgency of the situation was further underscored by an incident in Bishnupur district, where five individuals suffered bullet injuries when protesters attempted to breach a CRPF camp, resulting in two fatalities.

Condolences and Assistance for Affected Families

In the wake of the bombing and related unrest, both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister visited the injured individuals and their families at Raj Medicity Hospital in Imphal. The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families affected by these events, including the recent passing of a minor girl in the Akampat relief camp. He announced that ex gratia payments and any necessary assistance will be provided to the bereaved families.

The overall situation in Manipur remains tense, with security forces actively engaged in managing the aftermath of the bomb attack and subsequent protests. The state government aims to restore order while ensuring the safety of its citizens as investigations continue into the tragic incident that has shocked the local community.
