Delhi Government Launches Scholarships for SC, ST, OBC Students for 2025–26

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Delhi government has initiated the application process for scholarships aimed at students from the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) categories for the academic year 2025–26. Students eligible for these scholarships can submit their applications through the e-district portal until April 30, as announced by government officials on Monday.

This scholarship programme is inclusive of a variety of state-funded and centrally sponsored schemes, designed to benefit students who are enrolled in schools, colleges, and universities across the National Capital Territory.

Financial Support for School Students

One major component of the scholarship initiative is the reimbursement of tuition fees and other necessary charges for SC, ST, and OBC students in Classes 1 to 12 attending recognised schools. Eligible students must come from families with an annual income of up to Rs 3 lakh and must also satisfy specific attendance and academic performance criteria. Furthermore, under the Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Pratibha Yojana, additional financial assistance is available for school students. Those in Classes 9 and 10 can expect support of Rs 5,000 annually, while students in Classes 11 and 12 may receive Rs 10,000, contingent upon meeting certain income and merit standards.

In addition to financial assistance for educational expenses, the government aims to enhance the overall academic environment for students from these communities. By ensuring that educational costs are minimised, the initiative intends to promote higher attendance rates and academic achievement amongst these populations. Students are required to maintain prescribed academic performance levels to continue receiving support.

Scholarships for Higher and Professional Education

Students seeking higher education, including professional or technical courses, are also eligible for merit-based scholarships offered by the Delhi government. The financial support can vary significantly based on course level, with aid ranging from Rs 8,000 to Rs 24,000 yearly. To qualify for these scholarships, applicants must have achieved a minimum score of 60 per cent in their most recent academic year. This threshold is established to ensure that only students who demonstrate strong academic capabilities are awarded financial assistance.

To foster and recognise academic excellence, the government will additionally present the Dr B R Ambedkar State Topper Award, offering Rs 25,000 to distinguished students among the SC, ST, and OBC categories across various university disciplines. This initiative not only aims to support financial needs but also encourages students to excel academically.

Support for Studying Abroad

In a significant move, the government has extended its support to SC students planning to pursue postgraduate or doctoral studies abroad. Candidates selected under this initiative may receive financial assistance of up to Rs 5 lakh per year. The total financial support is capped at Rs 10 lakh for master’s degree programmes and Rs 20 lakh for PhD courses, subject to eligibility criteria that include income limitations and age specifications.

This initiative is part of a broader strategy to alleviate financial barriers for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, thereby encouraging them to pursue higher education and gain access to enhanced academic opportunities. Through these scholarships, the Delhi government aspires to promote educational equity and foster a more inclusive academic landscape.
