The CSR Journal Magazine

Indian golfer Karandeep Kochhar, rejuvenated from a successful outing in Japan, is preparing for the IGPL Invitational 2026 in Mauritius. The event, hosted by tennis icon Leander Paes, marks the beginning of the African segment of the IGPL 2026, which consists of three legs. The 27-year-old Kochhar arrives in Mauritius directly from Japan, where he secured a tie for fifth place, marking his second top-five finish in just three tournaments on the Asian Tour this year. Kochhar expressed his enthusiasm for participating again in Mauritius, a location where he played previously in 2019 during the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, which was co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, the European Tour, and the Sunshine Tour. He noted that returning to the same golf course for the IGPL is an exciting opportunity.

Inclusion of Top Indian Talents

The IGPL Invitational 2026 in Mauritius will feature prominent Indian golfers, including Gaganjeet Bhullar, who has won 11 times on the Asian Tour, along with Pukhraj Gill, who topped the IGPL Order of Merit in 2025, and Aman Raj, a multiple IGPL champion. Kochhar highlighted the emergence of the IGPL, which started less than a year ago, and praised the collaborations with the International Series and various other organizations for enabling the tournament’s establishment in Mauritius. He believes that such initiatives showcase the strength of leadership within the golfing community.

Kochhar’s Reflections on Golfing in Mauritius

Kochhar reminisced about his previous experience at the Anahita Course in Mauritius, stating he is eager to revisit the location, particularly as the team format will now be incorporated into this year’s event. After a productive week in Japan, he feels motivated to build on his recent performances. He reflected on the valuable lessons learned during his time in Japan, emphasizing a determination to enhance his game. Recognizing the challenges associated with transitioning from various weather conditions, Kochhar expressed optimism about maintaining momentum in the upcoming weeks, particularly as he prepares for the International Series in Singapore.

Event Format and Participation

Pae’s organization, Flyingman Ventures, will also participate in the event with a team that includes Varun Parikh, Kartik Sharma, Syed Saqib Ahmed, and Sukhman Singh. Meanwhile, Kochhar’s team, Krishna Auto from Punjab, will consist of Kochhar, Harendra Gupta, Kapil Kumar, and C Muniyappa. Kochhar previously claimed victory at the 2025 IGPL Invitational UAE in Dubai and was runner-up at the IGPL Invitational Kolkata. He asserted the importance of the exposure provided by partnerships like the one with the LIV-backed International Series, which he believes will help demonstrate the depth of talent in Indian golf.

Looking Forward to Future Opportunities

Kochhar emphasized that the IGPL serves as a new pathway for Indian golfers to reach global competitions. He highlighted the potential for local players to gain experience in International Series events, which could open avenues for future participation in LIV Golf promotions. Kochhar’s success in previous tournaments, including his victory at the Egypt Golf Series – Red Sea Open, has contributed to his standing on the Asian Development Tour. The ongoing African leg will feature tournaments in Mauritius, South Africa, and Congo, along with events in various franchise cities and additional international competitions.

Team Dynamics and Ranking Systems

The ten franchises participating in the IGPL, each with four players, include Phoenix from Hyderabad, Atri from Mumbai, and Flyingman Ventures from Kolkata, among others. The new team format will involve two best scores being counted per round, accumulating points throughout the season to determine the top teams. In addition to prize money, individual winners compete for placements on the IGPL Order of Merit, which can lead to spots in lucrative International Series events across Asia, Africa, and Europe. The International Series Rankings offer a direct route to the LIV Golf League, enhancing opportunities for emerging players in the sport.
