The CSR Journal Magazine

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a hard-fought 5-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an exciting encounter in the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 157, LSG reached 160/5 in 19.5 overs, with captain Rishabh Pant leading from the front with an unbeaten 68 off 50 balls.

Shami’s Early Burst Restricts SRH

Opting to bowl first, LSG got off to a dream start as pacer Mohammad Shami ripped through SRH’s top order. His brilliant spell of 2/9 in four overs left Hyderabad struggling at 26/4 early in the innings.

LSG’s disciplined bowling attack ensured SRH never fully capitalized on the powerplay, putting them under pressure from the outset.

Klaasen, Reddy Stage Strong Comeback

Despite the early collapse, SRH fought back impressively, thanks to a remarkable 116-run partnership between Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy.

Klaasen scored a fluent 62, while Reddy contributed a solid 56, stabilizing the innings and helping SRH post a competitive total of 156/9 in their 20 overs.

Pant Anchors LSG Chase

In response, LSG’s chase was anchored by Pant, who displayed composure and control throughout his innings. Despite losing wickets at intervals, he ensured the run chase stayed on track.

Pant found support from Aiden Markram, who chipped in with a crucial 45, helping LSG recover from tricky moments in the middle overs.

Calm Finish Seals Victory

With pressure mounting in the final overs, Pant held his nerve, guiding LSG to victory with just one ball to spare. The win marked an important boost for the team early in the tournament.
