The recent grenade attack in Chandigarh has seen a significant breakthrough, as the Counter-Intelligence wing of Punjab Police, in collaboration with Chandigarh Police, has resolved the case and apprehended five individuals connected to the incident. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav announced the details during a press conference held on April 1. He confirmed the arrests of five suspects and elaborated that the police have recovered one grenade as well as another cache of arms. Operations are still ongoing to locate the remaining individuals who are currently evading arrest.

According to DGP Yadav, the police teams are dedicated to continuing their efforts to apprehend those who have allegedly escaped justice. Preliminary investigations have indicated that the terror module involved in the grenade attack is suspected to have connections with Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the ISI. The investigation has reportedly identified foreign-based handlers operating out of Portugal and Germany, suggesting a broader network behind the attack.

The Punjab Police revealed that the terror module operated using various cutouts and sub-modules to execute its plans, reflecting a complex and coordinated effort to undermine security in the region. The involvement of overseas operatives has raised concerns regarding transnational influences on local terrorism.

DGP Yadav stated, “This operation has effectively foiled a major terror conspiracy aimed at disrupting peace and harmony in the region.” He reassured the public that law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and committed to maintaining safety and security for all citizens in Punjab and Chandigarh.
