BJP Candidate Dilip Ghosh Alleges Law and Order Issues in Malda’s Kaliachak

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dilip Ghosh has expressed significant apprehensions regarding the feasibility of conducting free and fair elections in Kaliachak in West Bengal’s Malda district. He indicated that the locality is beset by law and order challenges that could complicate the electoral process.

During his address to reporters, Ghosh cited historical tensions in the area, referencing past incidents including the burning of a police station. He stated, “There are numerous anti-social and anti-national activities occurring, which are allegedly supported by the Trinamool Congress (TMC).” According to the BJP leader, these ongoing issues could hinder the smooth execution of elections.

Ghosh further pointed out the proximity of Kaliachak to the Bangladesh border, suggesting that this geographical factor contributes to illegal activities in the region. He claimed that issues related to law enforcement must be tackled decisively to ensure that elections can be conducted successfully.

Critical Response from West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

The situation escalated when West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC leader Mamata Banerjee voiced her concerns in a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner. She accused the BJP of attempting to undermine democratic rights ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections scheduled for 2026.

Banerjee’s letter detailed allegations that BJP operatives have been submitting fraudulent Form 6 applications, purportedly to manipulate the electoral rolls by including non-residents. She described these actions as a form of “voter hijacking” similar to tactics allegedly employed by the BJP in other states.

Furthermore, Banerjee demanded immediate action from the Election Commission of India (ECI). She urged them to adhere to the Supreme Court’s directives and prevent any dubious additions to the voter list following the final electoral roll release on February 28, 2026. The TMC leader emphasised that the integrity of democracy in Bengal must be safeguarded.

Past Incidents and Future Implications

In her correspondence, Banerjee referenced credible reports indicating that an unusually high volume of voter registration applications form a coordinated effort to disrupt the electoral process. She expressed apprehension that such actions might mimic previous patterns observed during elections in states such as Bihar, Haryana, and Maharashtra.

This ongoing conflict between the BJP and TMC is becoming increasingly prominent as the 2026 elections approach. Banerjee recently condemned the BJP for allegedly inciting communal unrest, stating during a public gathering in Purulia that the party’s policies threaten citizens’ dietary freedoms.

The political climate in West Bengal remains charged with both parties engaging in a war of words as they prepare for the election season. With these significant accusations and concerns about law and order, the upcoming elections in Kaliachak and the wider state may bear witness to intense scrutiny and challenges that could shape the political landscape.
