In a significant boost to urban mobility in Navi Mumbai, CIDCO’s Metro Line 1—connecting Belapur to Pendhar, has clocked an impressive ridership of 1,15,28,297 commuters within just two years of its operations. The achievement marks a major milestone for the city’s rapidly expanding public transport network.

Metro Line 1 Records 1.15 Crore Passengers Since Launch

CIDCO’s Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Vijay Singhal, applauded the Metro team for reaching this landmark and credited the public for embracing the service wholeheartedly. He stated that the overwhelming response reflects the trust commuters have placed in the system.

“The remarkable ridership of more than one crore in just two years highlights how essential this route has become. It has strengthened connectivity to offices, residential nodes, and industrial areas across Belapur, Kharghar and Taloja. I extend my gratitude to the people of Navi Mumbai for their continued support,” he added.

Improved Connectivity, Lower Fares Boost Daily Footfall

Metro Line 1, developed by CIDCO as part of the larger Navi Mumbai Metro project, began operations on 17 November 2023. It was formally inaugurated and dedicated to the nation on 12 January 2024 by the Hon. Prime Minister. Since then, the corridor has emerged as a crucial mobility link, offering efficient travel options to thousands of daily users.

In a move to enhance service frequency and commuter convenience, CIDCO has twice revised the Metro timetable. Currently, trains operate every 10 minutes during peak hours and 15 minutes during non-peak hours in both directions. Additionally, a rationalized fare structure—with tickets priced between ₹10 and ₹30—has further encouraged ridership growth.

Navi Mumbai Metro Footfall Rises After Fare Cut

The authority is also advancing future expansion plans. Metro Line 1 will be extended from Belapur to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Meanwhile, Metro Line 2 is proposed from Pendhar to Taloja MIDC and onward to NMIA via Kalamboli and Kamothe, covering an estimated 16-kilometre stretch. These extensions are expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity and strengthen the city’s multi-modal transport ecosystem.

With its sustained ridership momentum and commuter-centric measures, CIDCO’s Navi Mumbai Metro continues to evolve as an essential lifeline for the region’s residents.
