25-Year-Old Delivery Executive Killed in Delhi Crash; Driver Detained

The CSR Journal Magazine

The mother of a 25-year-old delivery executive, who tragically lost his life in a road accident in Delhi, expressed her despair over the loss of her only source of income. Rukmini, visibly shaken, lamented, “Who will take care of me now? I have no one.” Her son, Hem Shankar, was employed as a delivery agent for Zepto and was riding his electric scooter when a Hyundai Verna collided with him from behind. The incident occurred early Saturday morning at approximately 3:26 AM. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Shankar was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Details of the Incident Emerge

According to police reports, eyewitnesses suggested that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and attempted to flee the scene immediately after the collision. Rukmini recounted that her son had asked her to prepare chole bhature for dinner shortly before the tragic event. “He told me he was coming home and requested the food. After a quick meal, he left, and I did not receive any phone call from him afterward,” she added, breaking into tears.

Harrowing Discovery at the Hospital

Rukmini received the devastating news around 3 to 4 AM and rushed to the hospital only to find her son had already passed away. Overwhelmed by grief, she stated, “I fainted seeing him in that manner.” The shocking turn of events has left the family reeling and grappling with their loss.

Brother Alleges Driver’s Recklessness

The victim’s elder brother, Devendra, spoke out about the incident, alleging that the driver’s car had previously been involved in another accident before striking Shankar’s scooter. He recalled receiving a call from one of Shankar’s friends while attending a wedding. “When I arrived at the hospital, he was already dead. A black car came from behind, which had already been involved in an accident before hitting my brother’s bike. The driver has 14 pending challans,” he disclosed. An FIR has been lodged, but uncertainties linger regarding the family’s pursuit of justice.

Driver Detained by Authorities

Police have identified the driver as 27-year-old Mohit Kumar, a resident of Najafgarh and an MCD contractor. Following the incident, authorities seized the involved vehicle and have initiated a formal investigation into the matter. Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Darade Sharad Bhaskar, confirmed that an FIR has been registered and the driver is currently in custody. The family remains concerned about the legal proceedings and their outcome.
