A 17-year-old girl hailing from Ballia, Uttar Pradesh was abducted, kept in captive and raped for a month in Mumbai and Pune. The case was reported by the girl’s father, he filed a complaint, to which cops formed a team and the girl was rescued today, after almost a month. As per the complaint, the girl was abducted on November 14 by a 21-year-old man named Baburam. The girl was rescued by police from Chitbaragaon area in Uttar Pradesh. Police confirmed that the girl was kept captive for almost a month and she was sexually assaulted. The SO of Chitbaragaon Dinesh Pathak shared that the girl was kidnapped and taken Mumbai and Pune and subjected to rape and assault, and the accused is being questioned and investigation is underway.

Increase in sexual assualt cases
The accused has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act for rape, Pathak shared. He further shared that the accused was arrested in Dharmapur, and is currently in custody.
Cases like this have surged in India, recently the Union government of India informed Rajya Sabha that 1,321,745 cases filed by women between 2021-2023, with 4,28,278 in 2021, 4,45,256 in 2022 and 4,48,211 in 2023, and the highest number of cases in Uttar Pradesh alone. Apart from Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan ranked second with 1,31,246) and Maharashtra third with 1,31,958 cases. These figures are based on the National Crime Records Bureau’s annual Crime in India report, confirmed by the Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar.
Raped and strangulated to death
In another similar case, a girl, 12, was found dead in Rohtas, Bihar under mysterious circumstances. The minor’s family members are alleging that the girl was ‘raped and strangulated to death while she was returning from tuition”. However, police haven’t confirmed the cause of the death as the post-mortem examination report is awaited. In a media briefing SP Raushan Kumar said, “Police have launched an operation to arrest the culprits. Strict action will be taken against them.”
