PM Modi on Tuesday celebrated a significant milestone in the 10-year anniversary of the Digital India initiative. This initiative was launched a decade ago, this programme was designed in a manner that India will transform into a digitally empowered society.
Early Tuesday, PM Modi shared a post on this milestone, the post reflects on the journey of the past decade and highlights the impact of the digital initiative.
The post said, “Today is a historic day as we mark #10YearsOfDigitalIndia! Ten years ago, Digital India began as an initiative to transform our nation into a digitally empowered and technologically advanced society. A decade later, we stand witness to a journey that has touched countless lives and ushered in a new era of empowerment.” PM Modi highlighted the significant progress Indian has made in different aspects like education, healthcare and thanked the nation for the will power it has shown for the transformation.
This initiative is a flagship programme that was launched by PM Modi in 2015, with one goal to make the lives of all Indians easier by the usage of technology. Ever since the launch the digital divide of the country has been bridged and internet has reached to the remotest locations across India.
During this occasion, PM Modi also spoke on how MSMEs are being affected positively by the digital economy. He pointed out that platforms like Oen Network for Digital Commerce and Government e-Marketplace) are boosting local sellers and helping them reach national markets.
“ONDC recently surpassed 200 million transactions, with the last 100 million taking place in just six months,” Modi wrote. He gave examples of Banarasi weavers and bamboo artisans from Nagaland who are now able to sell directly to buyers across India.
Calling India’s tech ecosystem a “renaissance,” Modi said, “India now ranks among the top 3 startup ecosystems in the world, with over 1.8 lakh startups.”
He highlighted India’s expanding leadership in AI, backed by the $1.2 billion India AI Mission. According to him, the country now offers access to 34,000 GPUs at rates under $1 per GPU hour — among the lowest in the world — positioning India as both a cost-effective digital economy and an affordable computing hub.
India, he added, is promoting a “humanity-first” approach to AI and setting up Centres of Excellence across the country to drive innovation and inclusive growth.
