WhatsApp has initiated the rollout of a revamped message menu for select Android beta users. This significant update comes after years of development, aiming to streamline user interaction by offering a more intuitive design.

The new interface is modelled after the existing iPhone layout, featuring a cleaner contextual arrangement that appears alongside selected messages. This change is expected to facilitate quicker access to frequently used actions, thereby enhancing the overall user experience.

WABetaInfo, a well-known source for WhatsApp updates, first highlighted this feature in 2023, indicating that WhatsApp was exploring a more cohesive interaction model for Android users. The redesign arrives three years later, as the feature has finally become accessible to beta testers.

Key Features of the Redesigned Menu

The updated message menu replaces the previous action interface with a more modern contextual design. Previously, Android users had to navigate through the overflow menu at the top of the app for various message-related tasks. This often resulted in a disjointed experience, as options like forwarding and editing were found separately in the top app bar.

With the new design, essential actions are consolidated into a single menu that appears next to any selected message. The most commonly used functions are prominently displayed, while less frequently used options are organised under a “More” section. This reorganisation aims to reduce clutter and create a more seamless message management process.

To use the redesigned menu, users need only to tap and hold on a message as before. The new contextual menu will then appear, offering a straightforward way to access available actions for both individual and group chats.

This update marks a significant step towards achieving greater consistency between the Android and iPhone versions of WhatsApp. While both platforms follow distinct design philosophies, the new menu design helps bridge the gap, particularly for users who frequently switch between Android and iOS devices.
