Toyota Kirloskar Motor Achieves 100% Carbon Neutrality in Renewable Energy
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has successfully achieved 100% Renewable Energy from June 2021 which includes TKM Manufacturing Plant at Bidadi and 8 On-site Supplier Companies.
This feat has resulted in offsetting carbon of 16,635.54 tons (Cumulative April’21 ~ Sept’21) which underscores the company’s strong commitment towards conserving the ecosystem throughout the entire life cycle of Products, Operations and Services.
In 2015, Toyota globally announced the “Toyota Environment Challenge 2050”. The holistic vision aims to achieve Net ZERO CO2 from the products, across life cycle & manufacturing. Further, the next set of challenges aims towards creating a positive impact on the environment by water conservation, establishing a recycling-based society, and living in harmony with nature.
In-line with the Toyota Environment Challenge 2050, under its Challenge 3 of Plant Zero C02 Emissions, TKM had started its journey towards greening its energy source and has made substantial step-up over the years. In FY 2014, TKM gradually increased Green Energy procurement to meet the energy requirements. The solar projects & other schemes of the Government of Karnataka helped to achieve sustainable growth of TKM’s energy usage. To further enhance supply of renewable energy, TKM installed roof-top solar power plants and ground mount facilities at its Bidadi premises with a combined capacity of 8.2 MW and installation of 18 MW capacity of dedicated solar park outside the company.
Marking TKM’s milestone achievement, Mr. Raju B. Ketkale, Deputy Managing Director, Manufacturing, TKM said, “We at TKM have always given utmost importance to environment protection by incorporating the values of sustainable practices in our business and all our initiatives are designed towards lowering our environmental impact and achieving the goal of ‘Living in Harmony with Nature’. Going forward, in our pursuit to achieve a holistic vision of net zero carbon emissions, we will continue to further strengthen our eco efforts.”
Globally, Toyota has revised its target timeline of achieving Challenge 3 – Plant Zero CO2 to 2035 from 2050, wherein all the manufacturing facilities of Toyota shall become carbon neutral by 2035. As a part of this journey towards becoming a greener manufacturer, TKM has successfully achieved 100% renewable energy during the Global Toyota Environment Month – June’21 and shall strive to sustain and expand the same across all its value chain. Going forward, TKM will continue to work towards creating mobility solutions and building a sustainable society in harmony with nature.
