Kunal Ghosh, a member of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), has reported that his vehicle was attacked while he was en route to a rally for former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Serampore, located in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. The incident allegedly involved a group of individuals who hurled eggs at his car, an action that Ghosh condemned as part of a larger trend of violence against party members.

This reported attack comes shortly after a separate incident involving another TMC leader, Humayun Kabir, who alleged that he had been assaulted by a mob near the Purba Jadavpur police station in Kolkata earlier in the week. Kabir’s statements reflect growing concerns about the safety of TMC representatives in the region.

Previous Assault Incident Highlighted

The attack on Humayun Kabir occurred on September 20 when he claimed that approximately 30 to 35 individuals targeted him, leaving him with a serious neck injury. Following the assault, he was transported to a hospital under police supervision. In an interview, Kabir described how he became aware of disturbances in the Mukundpur area and attempted to assist one of the party’s leaders, Upasana Chowdhury, whose residence had reportedly been attacked.

Upon arriving at the police station, Kabir alleged that he faced hostility from a group he believed to be TMC supporters. As tensions escalated, he stated that he was assaulted as he attempted to enter the police premises. He recalled feeling unwell during the confrontation and required further assistance after collapsing.

Kabir’s experience serves as an alarming indicator of the political climate in West Bengal, particularly for members of the TMC. His claims were subsequently supported by other party officials who expressed concern for their safety and the safety of their colleagues.

Party’s Response and Allegations Against BJP

The TMC has condemned the violence as a tactic that undermines democratic processes in the state. Leaders within the party are urging law enforcement to take steps to ensure the safety of political representatives and to investigate these claims thoroughly to prevent further incidents.

As tensions between the rival parties continue to escalate, both sides appear entrenched in their positions. The TMC is focused on rallying support for its initiatives, while the BJP is advocating its stance on governance and law enforcement, creating a charged political atmosphere in West Bengal.
