The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced the availability of Expressions of Interest (EoI) for experienced educators, researchers, and academic professionals for empanelment as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for national-level examinations. This initiative aims to enlist qualified individuals who possess a strong background in their respective subjects and can enhance the quality of assessment processes.

Additionally, the NTA has called for language experts to serve as translation reviewers for examination content across 13 Indian languages. Applications for both roles may be submitted through the official NTA portal until the deadline of October 9, 2026.

Subject Matter Experts and Their Roles

The NTA is particularly aims to identify experts who can aid in various phases of examination content development and assessment. Tasks for SMEs will encompass question authoring, design, review, and moderation, alongside responsibilities in translation and transadaptation.

Professionals engaged in question development will need to create syllabus-aligned questions that test advanced thinking skills and application-based understanding. The review process will require thorough checks for conceptual accuracy, clarity, and appropriate difficulty levels in test items.

Overall, involvement in moderation will be vital for ensuring standardisation, neutrality, and adherence to examination frameworks. The NTA emphasises that experienced educators and academicians have a crucial role in upholding pedagogical standards and academic integrity in national-level assessments. Such contributions are essential to improving the national examination system.

Eligibility criteria for SMEs are broad, allowing serving or retired faculty members, professors, educators, and specialists with proven expertise to apply. Selected experts will be assigned specific examination-related activities depending on their subject knowledge and the NTA’s operational requirements.

Language Experts for Translation Review

The NTA is also seeking proficient language experts to review the accuracy of translated examination content. By broadening the availability of examination materials in various Indian languages, the agency aims to enhance the inclusivity of national assessments. The translation reviewers will be instrumental in ensuring that translated content is accurate, clear, consistent, and contextually pertinent.

Expertise in required Indian languages is essential as the translation reviewers will verify content created with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
