Mumbai-based psychotherapist starts social campaign initiative ‘YOU MATTER’ to address student suicides in India
Mumbai, India: In response to the alarming surge in student suicide cases, particularly in the state of Maharashtra, Psychotherapist Kareena Mehta has initiated a groundbreaking social campaign named ‘YOU MATTER.’ This workshop is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues and aims to reach out to colleges across Maharashtra, equipping students with the knowledge and tools to recognize signs of suicidal tendencies and take preventative measures. The inaugural ‘You Matter’ workshop took place at Mumbai’s prestigious Lala Lajpat Rai College. During this engaging session, she fervently delved into various aspects of mental health and suicide prevention.
Ms. Mehta emphasized the pivotal role of education and awareness in deterring student suicides. She addressed the numerous mental health challenges that students confront in today’s fiercely competitive environment. She provided invaluable insights into strategies and resources available to help students manage the pressures of academic life while navigating the intricacies of mental health. A highlight of the workshop was the introduction of the Box Breathing technique, which she demonstrated to help students effectively manage high-pressure and anxiety-inducing situations.
Kareena’s unwavering commitment to tackling the pressing issue of suicide prevention and promoting mental health awareness stands as a testament to her dedication to a brighter future for India’s youth. ‘You Matter’ is just the beginning of her efforts to cultivate a more supportive and compassionate environment for those grappling with mental health challenges. Her vision is to extend this initiative to numerous colleges throughout Maharashtra in the coming year, creating safe spaces for open dialogues on mental health and coping strategies.
